White Dogwood Bag- Is it Spring Yet?

It measures 17 inches square. The image is woven into the fabric. NOT printed on. Lined in black with fuzzy soft handles.

The image comes from my original watercolor painting.

Amaryllis an Clayboard- a work in progress

I worked on this for all of about 30 minutes last night. Not much. Just floated in some color for the background- quinacridone gold, and antwerp blue (? I think) mixed with a little grey still on my palette. It'll go much darker to offset the light shining on the amaryllis.

Trying to do glazing on paper or clayboard is spread out time wise even on a small painting such as this. It's 5x7 inches. Each layer needs to dry completely, which oftens means overnight, before adding more layers.

New Painting time, New Painting time

I have been itching to get back to painting, having not painted since before Christmas.
So I decided to look around for something to inspire me and do a work in progress. Maybe two as I want to paint something with casein and/or gouache. Starting on a black background. Yeah that's right, a black background.

I am fascinated about working from dark to light after seeing Karin's Jurick's painting videos. Here's her blog, love her work.

Here's an image that I found of an amaryllis in the Wet Canvas image library. It's very dramatic. It'll be plain old watercolor on textured clayboard.

Lynne Farris Gallery in Atlanta

I have paintings displayed in a downtown Atlanta gallery- Lynne Farris Gallery.

It is located inside the Hurt Building very close to downtown, off Peachtree Street, not far from the entrance to underground Atlanta. 50 Hurt Plaza is the address. I am not sure about the hours, I do know they are open by appointments some also. The phone number is 404-688-7311.

Resin Art Pendants

These little fun pendants are new. These are the only 3 designs I have done so far.
The image is set in resin inside a pewter pendant tray. The trays also come in gold or copper plated. The cats ones are a little less than an inch square. The others are about 1 inch x 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches.

aggravating Daisy by doing a "Karl Wallenda" on top of the dog kennels. She's grown a lot, when I look back at her earlier videos, as she should, she eats like a pig.

Happy New Year!- New Cat Yupo Prints added to the Store

Back in 2006, when I started painting these small little Yupo paintings, I began to look for a way to reproduce them. I tried my large format giclee printer (it cost more than a car) and it did okay. Part of the problem was trying to find an archival paper that would mimic the slick glassy surface of the Yupo. I tried 140# Arches watercolor paper, what I use for large reproductions of traditional paintings. Watercolor paper is excellent for them. The paper, being softer, allows the ink to sink in just like a regular watercolor painting on paper. Then I tried a special paper called Arches infinity that is made for digital printing. It was a little better but still not quite there.

So I was researching some of the newer photobased papers. Kodak has an ultra premium photo paper that is very thick, and coated, like photobase papers are, so ink sits up on top rather than sinking into the paper.
I tried an Epson photo printer with Kodak's paper. Close but still not quite there either.
Kodak came out with a printer and pigmented inkset, either end of 2006 or early 2007. The combination of Kodak printer, Kodak ink, and Kodak paper is perfect. I have been printing artwork a long time and I am amazed how good these prints look.

Now that the holidays are over, I am printing some of the originals that sold, and adding them to my store. Above are the ones I printed today. If you recall a favorite image that you don't see, ask about it, and I'll see if I can locate it. Here's the link to the Store.
